Interested in Volunteering?
Need some exercise?
Want to help animals?
Become a dog walker at the shelter!
All volunteers must be 18 or older.
A minor or vulnerable adult may be supervised and accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. The parent or adult guardian is mandated to be within arm's length or closer at all times. Any failure of volunteers to conduct themselves in this manner will result in being asked to leave.
A young person who wishes to walk dogs in the company of a parent or guardian will be given one dog and additional leashes. The parent or guardian must hold the leash.
Volunteers must carry a plastic bag and pick up after their dog.
New dog walking hours at RRPS:
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday4-6 p.m.
Please check in at the front desk and sign a dog walk release and the log sheet. You must leave a driver's license at the desk.
Dress for the weather
The river trail is lovely but it is not a groomed sidewalk. You will need to walk through snow to get to the trail. We prefer the dogs do not walk on the street due to traffic and street salt.
You are expected to clean up after the dog -- bags are provided. When you are finished, check out at the front desk.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers to work at the desk during the walking hours to check people in and out.
Woodworking hobbyists
If you can build a birdhouse, you can make cat-climbing "trees" for the new shelter. We have several easy, step-by-step plans available. Contact Katherine Nelson 507-380-7737.
Sewers, knitters, fleece-crafters
We need snuggly beds and warm blankets for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. If interested, contact Susan Kroon 507-388-2811.
