ARE YOU READY?
It is a privilege to have a companion animal and one should not obtain a pet impulsively. Before you adopt a pet, you must consider and understand these important facts:
  • Animals are different from humans in their responses to human actions.
  • The actions of animals are often unpredictable.
  • Having a pet will change your lifestyle.
  • You have a responsibility to care for a pet throughout its life expectancy. In addition to basic needs such as food, water, and housing, there is health care. Pets must be examined by a veterinarian on a regular basis and receive certain vaccinations, tests, and possibly medications. Are you prepared for these costs?
  • All pets require daily attention and exercise.
  • You must provide proper training.
  • A pet is a lifetime commitment, and you will not abandon your pet.
  • If you cannot adequately care for a pet, you will find it a good home or take it to an animal shelter.
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment, and then spoke softly, "I have done something," was the reply. "I created you."
