2020 Board Meeting Dates

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Board of Directors will be meeting virtually via Google Meet. If you are interested in attending the meeting, please email media@benchs.org by 3:00 on the day of the meeting. You will be sent a link to join the meeting.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is responsible for fundraising, policies for shelter operations, and community awareness.  Our public board meetings are the 2nd Monday of every month at 5 pm.  In addition, board workshops are generally held monthly, usually the 4th Monday at 5 pm.  We are a working board.  In other words, board members participate in program work, fundraising work, and administrative work.  Each board member takes responsibility for some aspect of the advancement of BENCHS.  Our board members typically spend about 8 hours or more per week doing board related work.

Help Wanted!  New Members Needed for the BENCHS Board of Directors!

Board Member Application
Recently BENCHS has experienced significant growth; more than 1000 dogs and cats moving through our program, new staff learning the system, our wonderful new ED leading changes and a large annual budget to manage. We are seeking fresh perspective and vitality for our board of directors. We are looking for additional board members who believe in our mission and are willing to be active in his/her governance role.  Our current needs are:

VOLUNTEERS: Our volunteer program needs a dedicated leader. This leader will be helping to train volunteers, recruit people to fill important roles and ensure communication of important information to the volunteers. The work we do at BENCHS would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers!  Kristin can help advise you about this role.  Contact her at media@benchs.org.

EVENTS:  BENCHS thrives through events! From simple Dining to Donate events at local restaurants to bake sales to our huge annual garage sale. We need our events to be staffed by enthusiastic volunteers and led by a few strong leaders. If you like working with fundraising events please consider this one! Email Susan at info@benchs.org for more information.

BUILDING/GROUNDS:  Our wonderful building is now more than 10 years old. All homes and buildings require diligent maintenance and BENCHS is no exception. Our program tends to wear hard on the place and we need someone to be attentive and proactive for our building and grounds. The Executive Director and Shelter Manager will be the point of contact as things arise. There are many BENCHS fans who will pitch in to take on projects, we need a leader to organize these things.  Our Executive Director, Andrew, can fill you in on current needs and future plans.  Contact him at executive@benchs.org.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: BENCHS has a strong support network in the community:  friends, members, donors, and  media. We celebrate all of them. Recognition, communication and development of these critical relationships are the focus of this committee.. To learn more email Andrew at executive@benchs.org or Becky at bestfriends@benchs.org.

And there are more roles and needs. If you have a talent, skill or interest you feel would benefit BENCHS please email us at info@benchs.org and let’s figure out how to get your abilities at work for the homeless cats and dogs.
